Horse Tag

To give a little context for this post: Ray and I have been taking care of a horse named Bint Sereta since about July this year. At first, we would go to the pasture to try to catch her and she would not make it easy on us. Later on, after she realized that being "caught" by us meant food, brushing and carrots she was much easier on us. She'd see us coming and walk towards us. One day, we saw the herd in one pasture. We went up to the gate of it and called for her. She walked to the gate to meet up with us.

Yesterday, I went out to feed her. The herd was in the field next to the first field. That field has an open gate on two sides. I went through the first field and towards the gate on one side and called for her, and she neighed in response from the other side of the herd. Given the shape of the field (plus the fact that it was starting to get dark), I couldn't see her, so I went through the gate and walked to about the middle of the herd.

I called her again, and she neighed loudly again, only this time she called me from the first field - the field I was in before I went through the gate! She snuck out the other gate and around to meet me as I was going around on the other side. Pretty funny.

So I turned around and headed back through the gate. She was closer to where we give her food and wasn't about to walk all the way over to me just to walk in again. She just took an intercept path and met me at the gate to the first field.

Okay, so it's not much of a story, but it was really funny to me. It seemed intentional!
